Lateiner, Jacob

Lateiner, Jacob
(1853-1935)
Along with Moishe Hurwitz, Jacob Lateiner was one of the major writers for the shund theatre, the bottom rung of New York's Yiddish stage, during its formative period in the United States in the 1890s. Lateiner is credited with writing over 150 plays, mostly simple melodramatic and sentimental works aimed at the unsophisticated tastes of newly arrived immigrants.
